To:  The Adhering Organizations of the International Mathematical Union
(IMU)

Dear colleagues,

The IMU has been approached by several groups and individuals regarding
recent events in Russia,
events that are of considerable concern to the IMU. As you know, the
International Congress of
Mathematicians will take place in St Petersburg 6–14 July 2022.

We have discussed the matter with several international organizations,
including the International
Science Council.

The Executive Committee of the IMU has decided to issue the attached public
statement regarding
the situation.
