Dear colleagues

I am happy to announce that on 2 December the United Nations, in a plenary
meeting of its General Assembly, proclaimed 2022
as the* International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable
Development*  (IYBSSD
2022).   See attached press release and

The IMU is a founding union of IYBSSD 2022, which was initiated by our
colleagues at IUPAP, the International Union of Pure and
Applied Physics.
Many activities will take place worldwide throughout the year, and we
sincerely hope that mathematicians will take part in these
activities and show the fundamental role of mathematics among the basic
sciences.
