Dear José,

this is a very sad news indeed. Prof Lewowicz was a frequent visitor and
friend of ICTP and we will also miss him. Please convey my condolences to
all those close to him and in particular to his wife who must be truly
heartbroken.

We will certainly make some public announcement on the ICTP website or
newsletter. I would be  grateful if you could send me any additional
information about his life that would be worth mentioning.

I regret to inform you that this saturday 2014/06/21  at 11:00 pm Dr Jorge
Lewowicz, who was member of the Academy of Sciences of the Third World,
passed away. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in March, 17th, 1937.

Lewowicz was known by his kind personality and his interest in the
understanding of the meaning and relationship of
Mathematics and the real world. He was involved in topological dynamics and
his achievements in the study of expansive dynamical systems are very well
known. We will miss him.
He was suffering from frequent heart failures. Finally this causes his
death.
