Estimation of α-convex sets: theoretical results and implementation of the α-convex hull

 

Resumen: This work focuses on the estimation of α-convex sets. 
Formally, let SÌRd be a nonempty α-convex compact set with α>0. 

The goal is to estimate S based on a sample from a random variable with support S. 

In this setting, the α-convex hull of the sample turns out to be the natural estimator. 

Theoretical results on the behaviour of the estimator are given. 

The implementation of the estimator is also discussed. 

As an application of this theory, we propose a new method for 

testing multivariate uniformity when the support of the distribution is unknown.
