The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool
University invites applications for the position of Lecturer/Associate
Professor. Our international department has around 70 academic staff
actively engaged in research in mathematics and its applications. We
seek individuals with a PhD in mathematics or a closely aligned
discipline who will make a strong contribution to the research output
of the department. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor
must also have an established international research profile and a
successful record of external research funding. The department is
currently looking to expand its research groups in dynamical systems,
functional analysis, financial mathematics and actuarial science, and
so preference will be given to specialists in these areas.
Successful candidates will show commitment to a high standard of
teaching at all levels. The department runs three four-year
undergraduate programmes in applied mathematics, financial mathematics
and actuarial science. English is the language of instruction in years
2 to 4. At the postgraduate level, we offer a master’s programme in
financial mathematics and PhD programme in mathematical sciences. We
also provide service teaching for other programmes within the
university.
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is an independent university
founded in 2006 as a joint venture between Xi’an Jiaotong University
in China and the University of Liverpool in the UK. It was the first
university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and
Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees. The
university has grown steadily and there are currently more than 13 000
enrolled undergraduate and postgraduate students. Of these, 10 000 are
studying at our campus in China and 3 000 are studying at the
University of Liverpool as part of a `2+2’ articulation route.
The XJTLU campus is in the city of Suzhou, China, and forms part of
the Dushu Lake Higher Education Town in the Suzhou Industrial Park
(SIP). Just 24 minutes from Shanghai by high-speed rail, Suzhou is
well-connected to other major cities in China. The broader Suzhou area
encompasses the spirit of both old and new in China, with the historic
old town’s canals and the UNESCO World Heritage Site gardens
attracting millions of tourists each year. The SIP offers an excellent
quality of life with high environmental standards. The nearby Jinji
Lake provides attractive views, by day and by night, and there are a
variety of shopping facilities, international and local restaurants,
entertainment hubs and a great nightlife. Suzhou is also home of four
international schools.
The salary range for the positions is 21,084 – 32,412 RMB/month
(Lecturer), and 32,904 – 44,918 RMB/month (Associate Professor). In
addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and
travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses.
Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday” of up to three years,
depending on nationality and personal circumstances.
