On behalf of Jeroen Lamb. Please distribute.

**********************************************************************
I would like to make you aware of some excellent opportunity for strong
students to do a PhD with us at Imperial College. The positions are part of
an EU PhD training network on “Critical transition in complex systems” that
we coordinate at Imperial, see also the attached poster and the website
http://www.ma.ic.ac.uk/DynamIC/CRITICS (under construction).

We would appreciate if you divulge this opportunity locally, by forwarding
this e-mail and displaying the attached poster.

The PhD training positions are open to all, with the minor restriction that
candidates should not have resided in the UK for more than 12 months during
the last 3 years. So in particular, non-European students are also very
welcome to apply. PhD student fees are waived, and the studentships carry
rather generous salaries (at the level of junior research assistant). The
positions are for 3 years, and should start normally 1 October 2015, but
there is room to negotiate starting rates until 31 March 2016. Later
starting dates may be considered in exceptional cases.

We are looking for strong mathematics or theoretical physics students to
make inroads in the area of bifurcation theory for “complex systems”. The
main aim is to develop bifurcation theory beyond the traditional
setting, including in particular large networked dynamical systems,
multi-scale dynamical systems and random dynamical systems. Although the
topic may appear “applied”, and there are several opportunities to work
with other applied scientists, inside and outside the CRITICS network, at
Imperial our focus will be to develop state-of-the-art mathematics, and we
are keen to attract students with strong mathematical skills.

For more information on the Dynamical Systems group at Imperial College,
where the PhD positions will be embedded, see http://www.ma.ic.ac.uk/DynamIC

The application deadline for these positions is 4 August 2015. Informal
enquiries can be sent to the CRITICS coordinators Prof Jeroen Lamb (
jswlamb en imperial.ac.uk) and Dr Martin Rasmussen (m.rasmussen en imperial.ac.uk
).

Best wishes,

Jeroen Lamb
