  Beal Conjecture Prize Increased to $1 Million
The prize for the solution to the Beal Conjecture, a number theory  
problem, has been increased to US$1 million [  
http://www.ams.org/news?news_id=1910 ] . The prize and conjecture are  
named for D. Andrew “Andy” Beal, a Dallas banker who has a strong  
interest in number theory and who provided the funds for the Beal Prize.

  2013 Shaw Prize to Donoho
The 2013 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences [  
http://www.ams.org/news?news_id=1905 ] , worth US$1 million dollars,  
is awarded to  David L. Donoho  (Stanford University) "for his  
profound contributions to modern mathematical statistics and in  
particular the development of optimal algorithms for statistical  
estimation in the presence of noise and of efficient techniques for  
sparse representation and recovery in large data-sets."

  Derek Bingham Receives CRM-SCC Prize in Statistics
The CRM-SSC Prize 2013 [ http://www.ams.org/news?news_id=1904 ]  is  
awarded to Derek Bingham, Department of Statistics and Actuarial  
Science, Simon Fraser University, "for his outstanding contributions  
in the area of the design and analysis of experiments in the physical  
and engineering sciences, specifically in the development of  
statistical methodology for complex computer simulators, fractional  
factorial designs for multi-stage experiments, and for optimal robust  
parameter designs for product variation reduction."
