      ISTEC Y XILINX UNEN ESFUERZOS PARA APOYAR LA INVESTIGACIÓN Y DESARROLLO EN IBEROAMÉRICA

      El Consorcio Iberoamericano para la Educación en Ciencia y Tecnología (ISTEC) anunció hoy que Xilinx Inc., líder mundial en el mercado de dispositivos de Lógica Programable Reconfigurable, a través de su Programa Universitario XUP ha donado al Consorcio una cantidad importante de Kits de Desarrollo Spartan®-3E para prototipo rápido en Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA).

      Las tarjetas Spartan®-3E pueden utilizarse con varios programas como: ISET WebPACKT, ISE® FoundationT, System Generator para DSP, MATLAB®/Simulink®, Platform Studio/EDK, ChipScopeT Pro, ModelSim Xilinx Edition, entre otros.

      Debido a su naturaleza reconfigurable, simplicidad y desempeño, el interés y uso de sistemas basados en FPGA está incrementándose rápidamente. Cada vez más un mayor número de estudiantes, profesores e investigadores en Iberoamérica están reconociendo los beneficios de poder contar con este tipo de herramientas para la instrucción e investigación en una diversidad de áreas que van desde el Procesamiento Digital de Señales, la Automatización Industrial, hasta Equipos Biomédicos; por lo que se espera que el equipo donado por Xilinx estimule la difusión de esta tecnología y ofrezca nuevas oportunidades de desarrollo en la región iberoamericana.

      De acuerdo con Jorge García - Vicepresidente de Desarrollo de Programas de ISTEC, "La colaboración con Xilinx hará posible la transferencia de tecnología mediante el establecimiento de laboratorios que facilitarán las labores de enseñanza y el desarrollo de proyectos de investigación en universidades iberoamericanas. Este esquema nos permitirá promover la colaboración institucional y contribuir al mejoramiento de la educación en ciencia y tecnología en la región".

      La donación del equipo a universidades iberoamericanas se realizará mediante convocatorias abiertas a través del Programa de Series de Desarrollo Profesional lanzado recientemente por ISTEC. Se espera que la primera convocatoria se lance en las próximas semanas.

     ISTEC AND XILINX PARTNER TO SUPPORT RESEARCH AND 
      DEVELOPMENT IN IBERO-AMERICA

      The Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC), announced today that Xilinx, Inc., leader in the digital programmable logic device (PLD) market, has donated through its University Program (XUP) a significant amount of Spartan®-3E development boards for rapid prototyping on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA).

      The Spartan®-3E boards can be used with several software applications, such us: ISET WebPACKT, ISE® FoundationT, System Generator for DSP, MATLAB®/Simulink®, Platform Studio/EDK, ChipScopeT Pro, ModelSim Xilinx Edition, among others.

      Due to its reconfigurable nature, simplicity and performance, the interest on the use of FPGA systems it's being growing rapidly. Every day, an increasing number of students, professors and researchers in Ibero-America are recognizing the benefits of this technology for education and research in many areas, such as Digital Signal Processing, Automation and Control, and even in Biomedical Equipment; consequently, it is expected that the equipment donated by Xilinx will stimulate the dissemination of this technology and promote new development opportunities in the Ibero-American region.

      According to Jorge Garcia - ISTEC VP for Program Development, "Xilinx's support will facilitate the technology transfer in the region through the creation of laboratories that will support education activities and the development of research projects in several Ibero-American universities. This approach will help us promote institutional collaboration and contribute to the improvement of the education in science and technology in the region."

      The development kits will be awarded to Ibero-American universities through Request for Proposals (RFP) that will be made under the Professional Development Series Program recently launched by ISTEC. It is expected that the first RFP will be released in the upcoming weeks.
