Dear all,

I am pleased to share with you an opening of a Postdoc and PhD position at
the Institute for Stochastics (where I came from), JKU Linz, Austria, to
work on a 3 year bilateral project with Lubos and Petr. More info are
attached below.

I would appreciate if you can share the news to interested candidates.

Best wishes,
Massi

Dear Colleagues,

this is to advertise an opening for a Postdoc position, as well as a PhD
position at the Institute for Stochastics, Johannes Kepler University Linz,
Austria. The positions are part of a 3 year Joint FWF-GACR Project between
Austria and the Czech Republic. The cooperation partners are Prof Petr
Lansky and Dr Kostal at the Institute of Physiology, Department of
Computational Neuroscience, Czech Academy of Science, in Prague.

The project aims to provide further insights into the principles of
information coding and the role of noise in the insect olfactory system.
The tasks include modelling the insect olfactory system and the neural
information pathway with suitable stochastic processes, as well as
analysing the resulting stochastic models and developing statistical
techniques
to analyse relevant data such as spike trains arising from experiments or
simulations of the insect olfactory system.

Applicants for the Postdoc position are expected to hold a PhD in
Mathematics or Statistics and have a strong background in probability theory
and statistics for stochastic processes. Applicants for the PhD position
should hold the equivalent of a Master degree in Mathematics or Statistics with
emphasis on probability theory and stochastic processes. In both cases an
interest in Mathematical Neuroscience is expected.

These positions have no teaching load (however, the possibility of taking
on some light duties exists, should the candidates wish to gain teaching
experience), the salary is according to the FWF scale:
https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-funding/personnel-costs .

The starting date is as soon as possible in 2020. Applications will be
reviewed swiftly and selected candidates will be contacted for interviews.

For inquiries, please contact Prof. Dr. Evelyn Buckwar (
evelyn.buckwar en jku.at). Please send your application in PDF format per
email to Melanie Traxler (Melanie.Traxler en jku.at) with reference 'FWF-GACR
Post Doc Position' or 'FWF-GACR PhD Position'. The application should
include cover letter, CV, research statement and two reference letters. When
applying for a PhD position, please also include transcripts of records.
