Este viernes nos visita Zbigniew Nitecki de la universidad de Tufts.
Hablará sobre "Hyperbolicity and Compactness: Anosov diffeomorphisms of the
plane".

RESUMEN: Hyperbolic structures play a central role in the analysis of
dynamical systems on compact manifolds.  However, the analogous structures
in a non-compact setting can induce behavior that differs sharply from the
compact case.  I plan to illustrate this with some examples of
diffeomorphisms of the plane which have a global hyperbolic structure
(Anosov diffeomorphisms) and to discuss a conjecture formulated together
with Jorge Groisman, strengthening a conjecture of Pedro Mendes from 1977,
concerning the classification of Anosov diffeomorphisms in the plane.  This
discussion involves some amusing observations about foliations of the
(two-dimensional) plane.
