Este viernes 12 retomamos el seminario, como siempre a las 14.30hs.
Tenemos el placer de comenzar con una exposición de Andy Hammerlindl, del
IMPA.
Al final de este mensaje van título y resumen.

Aprovecho la oportunidad para invitarlos a todos a exponer en el seminario y

Quasi-isometry and the limits of growth

Resumen:


Consider a diffeomorphism on a compact manifold and lift to the
universal cover.  Take two points on the cover.  If we iterate by the
lifted diffeomorphism, do the points grow apart exponentially fast?
For certain families of manifolds, the geometry of the manifold and
its fundamental group forbid this from occuring.

This question arose naturally from studying the properties of
invariant foliations of partially hyperbolic systems.  A foliation is
quasi-isometric if the distance between points measured along a leaf
is roughly proportional to the distance on the universal cover.  When
the invariant foliations of a system are quasi-isometric, it tells us
much about the structure of the system, but, as a consequence of the
above question, the foliations of many families of systems are not
quasi-isometric.
